Should we dialogue with our enemies?
On Sunday, Nov. 23, 2010, Emmaus Mennonite Church of Wymark, Sask., facilitated the local radio re-broadcast of an interview with Robert J. Suderman, General Secretary of Mennonite Church Canada, on his experience in attending a meeting at which Iran's President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad dialogued with non-violent peace builders at the United Nations in New York on Sept. 25, 2008.
The congregation placed an advertisement in the local community newspaper promoting the broadcast. Ray Friesen, Pastor of Emmaus, felt that re-broadcasting the interview was one way of acting for peace in his community, and offering an alternative point of view not frequently heard in the mainstream media. The interview was heard on two local radio stations in Southwestern Saskatchewan.
