Living for Peace with Canada's Indigenous Peoples
Neill and Edith von Gunten have worked along side Canada's First Nations people for decades. On Jan. 4, 2010, they were invited to attend the lighting of a sacred fire at The Forks in downtown Winnipeg. This is a historically important location for Manitoba's Aboriginal peoples, at the confluence of the Red and Assiniboine Rivers. The lighting of the sacred fire marked the official launch of Manitoba Homecoming 2010 - a year long event that will acknowledge Manitoba's 140th anniversary of provincial participation in confederation.
Neill and Edith provided liveforpeace.org toques to help keep patrons ears warm during the sacred fire ceremony and speeches.
