Peace Prayer Walk at Lethbridge, Alberta

Published in

Twenty-five people (14 from Lethbridge Mennonite Church and others from the Salvation Army Community Church and Southminster United Church) participated in a candle-light peace prayer walk on the evening of Remembrance Day, November 11, 2009.  This was not a protest, not ‘against’ any ‘issue.’  Rather, it was a quiet, humble, prayerful time to pray for peace in our city, our country, and our world and to “let our light shine” as ones who look to the Prince of Peace for hope and direction in responding to situations in which there is no peace.

The 35 minute walk began from Southminster United Church as we headed to MP Rick Casson’s office, to the steps of Lethbridge City Hall, and finally to the foot of the Cenotaph.  While the whole walk was prayer-full, at each of the sites a representative from a different denomination prayed a specific prayer for peace out-loud.  A hymn was sung before we moved on to the next location.

Already there are calls for a candle-light peace prayer walk next year.
